Message: thanks for the advise re: chipmunks, zippy. i think i scared some of them away with my thunderous bark. i have plenty to do harrassing squirrels; i have a tree in my yard which the neighborhood two-leggers refer to as the “squirrel condo.” it is fun to chase them up the tree but some of them stay just out of reach and scold me. i don’t think that’s fair! well, gotta rest up for tomorrow----they’ll be out again, i’m sure.

From: betty ann and leo’s mom
Hometown: mckinney tx
Message: well, zip old buddy, i’m just glad that leo and daisy ended up in loving permanent homes. we can’t change the past or fix the things that scare them. i’ll bet your folks forget that daisy hasn’t always been at your house until something like little kids with kites comes up. sometimes leo reacts oddly to ’normal’ things and i’m reminded that he’s chosen to trust and love me in spite of people letting him down before. there is just no limit to the canine capacity to love and trust.
Thursday, June 21, 2007 at 4:58 pm, Pacific Time

From: betty ann and leo’s mom
Hometown: mckinney tx
Message: hey zip, do you think daisy’s dread of little kids stems from her background as a rescue? we’re finding that our rescue boy leo reacts to ’normal’ things in different ways than betty ann does. and hey, kites are just spooky!
Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at 9:45 am, Pacific Time

Zippy responds: Our folks are sure that her background explains much. She does try so hard to be brave. I’m not sure I understand kites entirely myself, but it does seem like the kids are having fun, so I guess they can’t be that bad!

From: rosie
Hometown: albuquerque
Message: poor daisy. my late sister, queenie the corgi, used to be afraid of all kinds of things too. especially sounds like when our parents’ cell phone was low or the smoke detector beeping. yes, we knew when mom’s dinner was done when the smoke alarm went off. then we knew the pizza man was on the way, yay!! tell daisy not to be afraid, just think the kids are more little legs to herd around. love, rosie the pem in new mexico.
Saturday, June 16, 2007 at 11:19 am, Pacific Time

Zippy responds: Oh, gosh, the smoke detector! Why did you have to mention the smoke detector!

Message: hi zippy. you have the coolest web site, this is the fourth time i’ve been back in two days and just wanted to say hello. i’m a tan pembi. i dont get around as good as i used to now that i’m 13 and put on a few pounds. my human can even out run me now! and stairs, forget about it, i wont go there even if there is food involved. don’t get me wrong, i can still bark with the best of them. i went to a pool party last weekend and found out that if you run around three sides of a pool barking, you can herd all the humans to one end! say hello to daisy for me. keno

Message: hi zippy! what should i do about my new neighbor(s)? i’m not sure exactly how many there are, but a couple of yummy-looking chipmunks have moved in right next to the back door of my house. the two-leggers i live with are not happy about this and neither am i. they won’t let me at ’em! any ideas? your devoted fan....sophie
Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 5:49 pm, Pacific Time

Zippy responds: Chipmunks are made to be ignored. You may safely do so. Squirrels, on the other hand, are designed from the ground up to be harrassed. Do your best.

From: toby
Message: how do i eat that awful dog food and what am i sopposed to do with cats?
Thursday, June 7, 2007 at 3:54 pm, Pacific Time

Zippy responds: Throwing up on the lightest-colored carpet in the house is a time-honored method of letting your folks know that you are less than pleased with their food selections. Cats are very good at swiping you across the nose with their claws. This knowledge should be useful when you decide what “to do” with them!

Saturday, March 24, 2007 at 2:31 pm, Pacific Time

Zippy responds: Funny thing about those Nintendogs...if your folks, er, “forget” about them for a while, the ones in the Dog Hotel are just as shiny, bouncy and happy as the last time you saw them. The ones at the virtual house are dirty, full of fleas and probably pretty smelly, but they are just as happy to see you. And they are also pretty quick to forgive, once you wash and feed them and take them out for a walk. They are likely to find presents on the street. Really valuable things like a stick. Oh, and I hated moving. Hope you are enjoying your new digs.

Message: dear zippy, i am writing to seek your advice. i, too am a corgi (pembrooke not cardigan. who needs a tail?) anyway, i just spent four delightful weeks with my people’s parents while they were on holiday. they went to africa and assured me it was too hot for corgi comfort. while they were away, the new guest people taught me all sorts of games that involved cheese rewards. i don’t know if you have ever had cheese, but i seriously suggest you try some. so, lots of tricks and several hundred snippets of cheese later ... finds me 3 lbs heavier! my people returned and were not impressed. i don’t know if i’ll ever get to go back to the house of cheese ... my question is - how do i lose the extra poundage without feeling totally deprived? sigh, lucy
Friday, March 23, 2007 at 11:21 am, Pacific Time

Zippy responds: Cheese rules, my friend. Cheese rules. But only three pounds heavier? Oh, my, that is only a large snack, not much to worry about. An extra 15 minutes of walkies per day should get you svelt in no time. Svelt? Is that a kind of cheese?

Thursday, March 22, 2007 at 1:13 pm, Pacific Time

Message: zippy, how have you been? we just wanted to let you know that we now have a second corgi we named gibson. we found him on petfinder when he was 9 months old with specific instructions that he should go to a corgi capable home. it was love at first sight & he was well worth the four hour drive to get him. star loved him at the shelter but not so much once she realized he was going to be a permanent addition to our family. it has taken some time but she has developed a love/hate relationship for him and late at night when she thinks no one is looking she has been known to cuddle up with him. (shhh...don’t tell) competition for attention & food is fierce but at least she has found someone who is more than willing to accomodate her intense need to herd anything that moves. two corgis are definitely better than one. although we’ve heard three is perfect, we don’t think star is or ever will be ready for that. we still love your site and check in all the time. keep up the good work!
