Message: hi zippy. just touching base. haley and morgan were in for their ‘needles’ last week. something about ‘boosters’... we don’t quite know what that means but we get liver treats from doctor debbie afterwards so it’s worth it... needle = liver treats... pretty good deal. haley got a clean bill of health, for 12 years old and morgans tooth extraction has healed up nicely. we hope you are experiencing equally good health. vet checks are important to a corgis general wellness. bye for now! haley, oliver and morgan

Message: hi zippy. perhaps my corgi tastes are a little off the beaten path, but have you tried seaweed? they actually take that stuff off the beach and package it right up into a tasty dried snack! it’s crunchy and fishy; wow, i really adore it. my mom says it’s good for thyroid too, but the crunchy and fishy aspects are reason enough for me to get excited. give it a whirl! cheers, sophie

Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at 12:57 pm, Pacific Time

Message: hey corgis, have you ever had your coats trimmed for summer? i am thinking about thinning out my undercoat and turning long pants into shorts. my family knows a cat who gets shaved once a year. it was just a thought. it is not to make me shed less. it is for better thermal resistance.

Message: hi zippy, we hardly ever get much snow here, but the last time we had a real snowy time (more than a day or two) i was forced into pooping in the driveway instead of the yard. my person thought she was really funny when she saw all of my work and said i had made “poopsicles”! she didn’t laugh though when the snow melted.

Message: zip just an update. our new (very large) kitty arrived and we are pleased to say he has been no threat to our corgi domain whatsoever. we are pleased. at 18 lbs he is quite imposing (we have nicknamed him “tubby tabby” but don’t tell him) but his personality does not match his stature. quite a gentleman actually, unlike us zany corgis. all the best to you zip. stay in touch. haley, oliver and morgan

Message: hey zippy, like sophie, we have the snow problem, but unlike sophie’s folks digging her a poop loop (which we found quite amusing) i am required to forge my way around in the snow and make my own tunnels. its a rough life sometimes. today we went to the dog park and played and played. i’d really like to catch a rabbit or a squirrel. hope you are well and happy. love, izzy

From: cati the corgi

Message: just wanted to share, my folks (who are, of course, members of the lesser corgi society)are so proud of me. you see, i am really food motivated--i even ask for and eat lettuce--so when a piping hot, fresh chocolate chip cookie hit the floor yesterday, i was there before you could wag a nub. just as i was about to gobble the cookie, i heard “no, no, cati. leave it” and i did. leave it, that is. “leave it” is something my folks and i have worked really hard on and that i have become quite good at. kind of sad, though, because even though it would hurt me, i’d love to know what chocolate tastes like... keep up the good work zippy, you are a grand ambassador of corgi kind
URL: http://www.dogster.com/dogs/161173

Zippy responds: Good dog! “Leave it” is indeed a difficult one to master.

From: sophie
Hometown: milwaukee, wi
Message: hi zippy! we have lots of snow here, so much that my two-leggers had to dig a “poop loop” in the backyard so i could releive myself! being of a roughly 7" inseam, the 12+ inches of snow on the ground presented a bit of an obstacle. i love to play in the snow, but this is a bit much for someone of my stature. more is on the way! what’s a girl to do???
Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 5:55 pm, Pacific Time

Zippy responds: Snow can be a problem for us low-riders, Sophie, but a good bunny-hop technique can be successful on many levels, including cracking your folks up. Then, just hold out for Spring!

Message: moi again. thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly! most wouldn’t reply for about a year. it’s a shame the music program you use isn’t around any more. try garageband. it’s really great for making music: my school use it. we use apple macs at school but i think you just might be able to get a pc version...i’m not sure. i was looking back at the correspondence page from 1997. i saw you didn’t reply? i also saw most didn’t put their hometown. i sure think your correspondence has improved massively since then, and i love how you...or your folks, whoever, update this place so often. no wonder you won that good citizen award. lol. see ya! hey, zippy, i have a question. i’d like to get a corgi as a nice companion when i’m old enough to live on my own and handle looking after someone else, and i just adore pembroke welsh corgis. thing is, i read that in play they snap at the heels (mostly running with children). got any tips on how to train a dog not to do so? i’m stumped, because our dog never does that... amy, age 11
Monday, February 11, 2008 at 11:47 am, Pacific Time

Zippy responds: Yeah, there were no replies in the early days of the website. Then I got chatty. As to the heel-nipping, we are herders, so heels can be tempting for some of us. They never held much appeal for me, though. But for any behavioral problem, a good professional trainer is the way to go. Ask your breeder for recommendations.

Message: zippy, you rock! you’re so cute! love your page, and i have the picture of you in the trees as my desktop design...i’m your international fan, dude. i wanted to introduce you to my dog bailey. he’s a black lab, very sweet, never barks. please say hello to him for you! zips, that i love the track ‘rain’ on your jukebox. did your folks make it? stay as cute as ever! love amy, age 11.
Sunday, February 10, 2008 at 12:03 pm, Pacific Time

Hometown: louisville,
Message: dear zippy, i really dig your website!(pardon the pun) i was wondering if you had any tips on mooching “people food” from your folks :) being corgis, you know, we are very treat-oriented. sometimes i get special treats by accident, like one time on thanksgiving when a whole slice of pumkin pie fell off a plate. i snatched up this gourmet prize so i wouldn’t have to share with my two corgi friends. my folks were amazed at how quickly i zoomed in on it. best wishes for dog toast, keeper
Sunday, February 3, 2008 at 8:37 pm, Pacific Time

Zippy responds: Accidental treats, while extremely tasty, are unfortunately rare. Unless your folks are extremely clumsy. And they might be. But the real prize is having them give you something because you are just so precious and adorable and it becomes irresistible for them to slide a little something off a plate directly into your vicinity. As a Corgi, you are well on your way to precious and adorable. Now you just need to hone your technique. An earnest stare accompanied by a slight drool and an enigmatic smile is a good place to start. Enjoy!

From: sidney
Hometown: vista, california
Message: hi zippy! you are so cool! i’m sidney, and i’m a 6 month old pembroke. i just came a week ago to live with my forever family. they have two old dogs, a corgi mix and a lab mix. what fun it is to try to play with them! they don’t seem to like it too much, though. zippy, i have a question. my first human mom did not have my tail docked, and my forever family thinks i look too cute with my tail and don’t think they will do it either. will the other corgis make fun of me? what should my human mom say when other people ask why i have my tail? i like wagging it and i think it makes me look like a fox. thanks, zippy! my human mom always laughs when she reads your blog.
Saturday, January 19, 2008 at 12:33 pm, Pacific Time

Zippy responds: This subject is not without controversy, Sidney, but I am jealous of your tail. I wish I had one. Yes, the traditional Corgi “Bunny Butt” is adorable, but au naturel is beautiful too (some Corgis have a natural bob). In Great Britain, where they know a thing or two about Corgis, docking is now banned in many cases. So I believe your look is on the forefront of fashion anyway. Fly that flag proudly!
